"𝔉𝔬𝔲𝔯𝔱𝔥 𝔚𝔦𝔫𝔤" - By Rebecca Yarros - ★★★★★ 5/5

Golden book cover with black text: "Graduate or Die," "Fourth Wing." Silhouette of bird and dragon amid stylized clouds. Author: Rebecca Yarros.

I was recommended this book by a couple of friends and I was in a serious reading slump where I hadn’t picked up a book in ages. It was a frustrating time, feeling out of touch with the joy of reading and not knowing what kind of story might spark my interest again. After some thinking and a few encouraging nudges from my friends, I decided to give this book a shot because the premise sounded cool and everyone who read it seemed really into it. So, with a bit of cautious optimism, I dove into this book adventure.

What a way to jump back into reading! I’m totally in love with this series, and I can honestly say it reignited my love for books in a way I didn’t expect. The book kicks off with a rich and engaging intro to the characters, pulling you right into their lives and personalities from the get-go. The world-building is so detailed that I can picture the vibrant world they live in, from the school setting to the landscapes and even the unique traits of each character. The author has this amazing way of painting vivid pictures with words, making me feel like I’m right there with the characters on their journey.

The storytelling is just awesome, packed with layers of complexity and emotion. The narrative flows so smoothly that it’s hard to put the book down. I love it so much, and if you haven’t checked out this series yet, I totally recommend diving in, especially if you’re into fantasy or romantasy. The mix of magical elements with romantic vibes creates a captivating atmosphere that keeps you flipping pages and your heart racing.

The story revolves around a girl named Violet Sorrengail, and throughout the book, you follow her journey of self-discovery and growth. She’s a character who, despite some physical challenges, shows determination and resilience. Violet’s unwavering spirit and refusal to give up, even when faced with tough challenges, make her a relatable and inspiring lead. As she navigates her world, she meets various people who play key roles in her life, adding depth to the plot. The twists and turns are thrilling, often leaving me shocked and eager to see how Violet handles each new situation.

Rebecca Yarros' writing style is refreshingly easy to read. As someone who considers themselves a slow reader, I found her prose accessible and engaging, making it easy to keep up without feeling overwhelmed. She’s got a knack for crafting suspenseful moments, often ending chapters with cliff-hangers that make you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. These cliff-hangers pull me in, as I’m desperate to know the characters’ fates and how their conflicts get resolved. I’ll dive more into this aspect of her writing later since it’s a big part of what makes the series so enjoyable.

"ℑ𝔯𝔬𝔫 𝔉𝔩𝔞𝔪𝔢" - By Rebecca Yarros - ★★★★★ 5/5

Book cover of "Iron Flame" by Rebecca Yarros. Features a black dragon silhouette over orange flames with intricate line patterns. Text: “Burn. It. Down.”

This book, much like the first installment in the series, has firmly established itself as my absolute favorite out of the three. The reason for this strong preference lies in the fact that I felt an overwhelming sense of engagement throughout the narrative, as so much more unfolded within its pages. The plot was intricately woven with suspense and excitement, leaving me in a constant state of anticipation, eagerly wondering what would happen next. Each chapter seemed to build upon the last, creating a rollercoaster of emotions that kept me on the edge of my seat, unable to put the book down for even a moment.

One of the standout elements of this book is the remarkable character development that takes place, particularly the deepening connections between the characters as they transition from Fourth Wing to this new chapter in their lives. I found myself particularly enamored with the dynamic between Xaden and Violet. Their relationship evolves beautifully, showcasing not only their individual growth but also how they complement and challenge each other. There were moments that were so poignant and relatable that I often wished I could teleport into the pages of this book and experience the storyline first hand. Even considering the horrific events that have unfolded and those yet to come, the thought of being part of their world, navigating the complexities of their relationship, and even learning how to ride a dragon was incredibly enticing. The thrill of soaring through the skies on a majestic creature, feeling the rush of wind and freedom, is a fantasy that captivates the imagination.

The narrative is filled with unexpected twists and turns, which makes following their journey all the more exhilarating. The development of their relationship is intricately tied to the unfolding events around them, and this intertwining of personal and external conflicts adds layers to the story. The ending, in particular, is both interesting and shocking, leaving readers with a significant cliff-hanger that is sure to provoke a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. After finishing the book, I found myself needing to read a different book in between just to process everything I had experienced. The intricacies of the plot and the depth of the characters’ journeys were so intense that I felt my brain might explode from the sheer volume of information and feelings. For days, I engaged in debates and discussions with fellow readers, dissecting every detail and exploring the implications of the ending. The impact of this book lingered long after I turned the final page, demonstrating its power and resonance within the realm of storytelling.

I highly recommend it if you haven't yet. There is no rush, however, as the fourth book is rumoured to be released around 2027. I believe this is the case because Onyx Storm was only released earlier this year.

"𝔒𝔫𝔶𝔵 𝔖𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔪" - By Rebecca Yarros - ★★★★★ 5/5

Book cover of "Onyx Storm" by Rebecca Yarros. Bold white title over a dark sky with clouds and a silhouette of a dragon. Text above praises dragons.

In this book, you're right there with Xaden as he navigates his new secret, which causes some bumps in his relationships with Violet and his friends. It really challenges their trust and pushes them to be more open with each other and their circle.

There are some things they prefer to keep to themselves because sharing could be really risky.

You also follow Violet's journey as she adjusts to this new lifestyle and tries to find a way to support Xaden. Meanwhile, there's something dark looming, and no one seems to know how to deal with it.

The ending really leaves you with tons of questions. That's why everyone is super excited for the 4th book—fans of Empyrean are dying to find out what happens to all the characters and why everything got so complicated. It's not as straightforward as it used to be, and this could either break your heart or turn out to be a happy ending. Honestly, it could go anywhere, and that's pretty nerve-wracking!

Everyone's got their favourite characters. Personally, I'm all about the main ones—Violet, Dain, Xaden, and Violet's sister Mira. I think Mira's got a super interesting and strong personality.

Once again, like with the other books in this series, I can't recommend this one enough. It's super captivating, the world-building is fantastic, and the character dynamics are just awesome. Plus, the storytelling overall is top-notch.
